Lost in Space
Every time I looked in the mirror I gasped with disgust and wondered who was this person looking back at me. I looked and felt so foreign in my space. I didn’t feel at home in my own body as if I were a spaceship sabotaged and thrown off course. And if I’m honest, it wasn’t just in a physical sense either. I felt lost physically, emotionally and spiritually always looking for something because something was missing.
Do you remember the television series “Lost in Space”? I grew up with that series, but even still, I looked it up on Wikipedia and it said that “the series follows the adventures of a pioneering family of space colonists who struggle to survive in a strange and often hostile universe after their ship was sabotaged and thrown off course.”
Can you relate to that at all on a personal level? Can you relate to feeling sabotaged and thrown off course while struggling in a strange and often hostile “universe”? I used to often think that how I looked in the mirror was not me. It was a constant conflict because, truly, I was not congruent with who and what I had become at 55 years old and it felt hostile, inside. Yet, I didn’t know what to do. I would spend time searching for “something” … anything that would grab my spirit’s attention to help lead me in the right direction or any direction! I would try to find books to read or programs to follow that would all end up leaving me frustrated. All dead ends and feeling lost, I was not willing to give up.
Perhaps you are feeling “lost in space” … lost in your own universe … lost in your body … lost in life. I totally get it. In looking back, what set me on a good course was not just exercising with yoga, but stepping onto the mat in a way that made me feel safe, that allowed me to breathe and be ok in my own skin no matter what it all looked like and no matter my ability. It all kind of happened by accident, but it doesn’t have to be an accident for you!
If this is resonating with you (and I suspect that it is), the first thing I want you to do is BREATHE! Breathe and know that you are in the right place at the right time.
