Spring Cleaning with Yoga Part 3

Here we are in the third and final cleansing yoga pose in our 3-part series.  So far, we have learned about Dolphin Pose in Part 1, Twisted Chair Pose in Part 2 and today our pose is Crescent Lunge Twist.  But, before I go into the benefits of today’s pose, I’d like to bring something to your attention.

Have you ever been on a “diet” or fitness challenge and wondered if it was worth it at all because you could not see with your eyes any physical results quick enough? I’ve been there! Most of us have.  Well, just because you don’t see anything happening on the outside does not necessarily mean nothing is happening at all.  Let me explain.

When we make changes to our diet and in how we move our body, there is so much that goes on in the inside that we simply cannot see. Sometimes the results take time to manifest in a way that is visible enough to track.  Not always, though.  Sometimes we have immediate results.  But, whether you can actually see any results or not, rest in knowing that your body is responding from the inside out. Beautiful things are happening!

We must simply trust the process!

I bring this up because when we are practicing all these different yoga poses, we are stimulating a lot from the inside.  Yes, we are getting stronger, more flexible, improving our balance but there is so much we don’t see … like the detox part.

Crescent Lunge Twist for example, does amazing things on the inside just like the other two poses.  What you might be able to see is the fact that this pose stretches and tones the legs, hips, and butt while opening the chest, shoulders and arms.  It improves flexibility and balance while increasing energy and confidence. But on the inside, the twisting applies pressure to your internal organs (just like Twisted Chair Pose), which tones them and increases their ability to detoxify the body. Then, afterwards, the torso and digestive organs are flushed with oxygen-rich blood that helps remove toxins while improving digestion.  Is that just amazing?!

So, know that whether your intention is to detox or not when you practice any kind of twisting pose, the detoxification and flushing process is happening. Our bodies really are amazing! If you sit back and ponder this, even meditate on it, you will begin to see that your yoga practice, with each pose, is so supportive and helpful and even loving in many, many ways. 

Let me encourage you to begin to wrap your mind and heart around the fact that practicing yoga is so much more than just exercise.  When you begin to get glimpses of how huge this really is, your practice will become an act of self-love as the mat teaches you to come into yourself and be at peace with who you are.
